Celebrate International Day of Play with SteamRocket’s Valley Kids PlayFest
SteamRocket, in collaboration with Indio Library and Little Street Music Hall, is excited to announce the Valley Kids PlayFest, an event celebrating the International Day of Play. We invite the community to a tech-free play day on July 27th from 10am to 12pm at Little Street Music Hall at 82707 Miles Avenue, Indio, CA 92201.
The International Day of Play is a new initiative created to celebrate the importance of play in people’s lives, especially children. Held annually on June 11th, this day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2023 through efforts by Right To Play and its partners. The day highlights that play isn’t just fun and games but is crucial for a child’s development and well-being, emphasizing that every child deserves the right to play.
“We’re thrilled to bring the spirit of the International Day of Play to the Coachella Valley,” said Elle Decker, Co-Founder of SteamRocket. “Even though the official day is June 11th, we believe in the power of play year-round. Our Valley Kids PlayFest on July 27th is an opportunity to engage children and families in traditional, tech-free activities that foster imagination and connection.”
The event will feature various old-school games, such as hopscotch, dominoes, giant Jenga, art projects, interactive installations, and face painting. These activities are designed to encourage children to unplug from technology and experience the joy of playing freely in a safe and supportive environment.
“Play is essential for children’s growth and development,” added Decker. “By partnering with Indio Library and Little Street Music Hall, we can provide a fun and enriching experience highlighting the importance of play. We look forward to families coming together and enjoying a day of fun.”
Valley Kids PlayFest is made possible thanks to funding from The LEGO Foundation and support from ChangeX, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of play and create more opportunities for children to engage in free, unstructured play. SteamRocket is committed to extending the celebration of play throughout the Coachella Valley. Plans are in place to bring similar events to various locations, ensuring that more children and families can participate and benefit from the power of play.
This free event is open to children of all ages and their families. For more information, please visit our website.
